DECEMBER : YEAR ONE

It's freezing outside. Delicate flakes float from the sky almost constantly. For an island it sure is cold. Make sure to bundle up. Having a cup of cocoa next to a warm fire is a wonderful idea!

Tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you
Over again...

Feathers flashed against the setting sun as Jessica soared high above the treetops, gazing at the large island in wonder. From what she could see there was no possible way of getting out of here, save for maybe a raft. However as far as her keen eyes could see in this form, she couldn't spy land. How long would it take to get somewhere else? Could someone survive that long? Could they build a ship to get out of here? Sure, it may be possible...but how would they store things? Perhaps she aught to go searching for salt too...

Deep in thought, Jessica didn't realize that she was sinking lower and lower towards the trees until with a screech of alarm she brushed the top of one of the tallest trees. Forgetting to flap her wings she plummeted towards the earth, crashing into a branch and transforming into a human in her panic. The branch slowed her fall, but soon snapped and she continued her rough descent until she hit the ground dazed and hurt.

After a few shaky breaths Jessica examined her injuries. Nothing was broken, however she had lots of bruises and small scrapes. Nothing serious but she would have to be careful about taking care of them. Infection could be fatal...she didn't know if there was a hospital around here.

Muttering to herself crossly she began to walk, finding herself in the middle of one of the most beautiful places she could imagine. The flowers almost glowed with color, while just as colorful birds flitted around. And right in front of her was a stunning waterfall, and a pool.

Grinning despite the soreness her body felt after that long fall, she trotted towards it and stripped down to her underwear, hopping right in without hesitation. Despite the fact she usually loathed getting wet, it felt wonderful to be able to wash the grime and dirt from her body, as well as the blood that was drying from her scratches. Looking at her tattered clothes she frowned. She would have to find new ones...somehow.

Soon hopping out and sliding her clothes back on, Jessica lay underneath a tree, enjoying the weather. She'd prefer by far to dry off in the sun but...hey, she was too lazy at the moment to bother about finding a sunspot, and the sound of the waterfall was peaceful enough that she was beginning to doze off...

Didn't think I meant
Literally 'falling'
Did you?

it's time to forget about the past
to wash away what happened last
hide behind an
empty face
don't ask too much, just say
'cause this is just a g a m e

High above the islands swaying treetops flew a large bird of prey. The light of the dying sun shone weakly upon on his melted bronze colored feathers, glinting off of them like it would a bright copper penny. Small animals on the ground below rushed out of the open, cowering in fear beneath bushes, lest the mighty creature decide that he was hungry enough to take a bite out of them.

Shades of orange and pink danced their way across the dark indigo waters below, stretching their thin fingers of light towards the island, where the sand seemed to be dyed a perfect pink color from the sun. The sky was painted with a shining palette of warm, glowing hues as the sun began it's nightly descent to the place where it slumbered. A gentle breeze ruffled the bushes and trees of the island, whispering to it's inhabitants that it was nearly night - a time to rest and let their dreams erase their worries. Everything was perfect, just like it always was.

Griffin was sick of perfect - to him, nothing was supposed to be perfect; people, places, things, they were supposed to be flawed - it was what made them all so different and interesting. Here on the island, it seemed like Griffin was surrounded by a cloud of sameness; he did the same things, day in and day out. People arrived constantly on the island, all so excited to find themselves living in such a perfect world, so eager to be able to change into their new forms. Could they not see the very picture - albeit, a very nicely painted picture - of conformity they had found themselves in? It made Griffin sick to see them.

The massive Golden Eagle let loose a high-pitched scream, and dove straight for the ground, just for the hell of it. He tucked his massive golden wings into his sides, spiraling around and around as he reached higher and higher velocities. The ground was growing closer and closer, but still Griffin did not pull upwards - he loved the feeling of intense fear and exhilaration that flowed through him too much to let go just yet. The leaves of the great dancing palm trees below beckoned towards him with every small breeze; "Come," they seemed to say, ready slow his descent with their great bowed branches. But Griffin would not let them catch him - at the last possible moment, he pulled up from his dive, shooting back up again in a huge skyward arc, like a powerful jet soaring through the sir.

Suddenly, a loud screech shattered the air, and Griffin heard something crash on the island. From the screech, it sounded like it had been some kind of falcon or hawk that had most likely landed somewhere among the trees below. They were probably a morph - Griffin had never before come across an ordinary bird that was so clumsy. He found it slightly irritating how whoever-it-was over there had just broken his concentration with his flying, and he figured he might as well go see if they were okay, at least, so he could chew them out about it.

Adjusting his flight so that he was more angled towards where the sound was coming from, he took off in that general direction. The sound had come from quite a distance away, and so it took him a few moments to actually get there. When he finally did, he found that he could spot no bird, real or morph, anywhere in the trees. Maybe they had turned back into a human? Griffin contemplated whether they were actually worth the bother he was going through to find them.

Eh, he decided, I might as well, seeing as there's nothing better to do on this god-forsaken island. It was true; Griffin found himself with hardly anything to do besides fly around the island all day more often then he'd cared to remember.

Circling lower and lower towards the trees, he finally alighted in a small clearing in the jungle. He hopped around awkwardly for a moment, regaining his bearings, before morphing back into his human form. Transforming had always been something that came naturally to Griffin - he'd had surprisingly little difficulty adjusting to it in the beginning, when he'd first arrived on the island. The only thing that bothered him about the actual transformation itself was how gruesome it seemed to be - seeing his fingers melting into feathers was not something that he particularly enjoyed.

Nevertheless, it was a small price to pay for the awesome power of flight and the heightened senses that the morph brought him. Even in his normal form, Giffin still resembled his morph, from the wheaten gold -colored hair to the sharp blue eyes, there was no doubt it had been him soaring above the island mere moments before.

He wandered through the dense jungle trees, brushing away the thick tangles of vines that barred his way as he gradually made his way towards the sound of rushing water. A few moments later, he came upon the sight of a huge crystalline waterfall cascading into a clear, glassy pool of water. There was no one there, upon first glance, but a few steps into the clearing, and the form of a sleeping girl was visible beneath a tall tree.

Griffin wondered whether she was the bird who had fallen from the sky. She didn't seem to be harmed, which was probably a good thing - Griffin didn't want to have to deal with any kind of trouble if she were bleeding and/or mortally wounded. But then again, maybe she was just dead, and he couldn't tell. He wandered closer to her warily, letting out a small sigh of relief when he found that, indeed, she was still breathing.

"Hey," he said, gently nudging her ankle with the toe of his boot.
